Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties has quietly become one of the best historical Total War games ever
Total War: Pharaoh got off to a bit of a rocky start, mostly by no fault of its own. It released at a time when community sentiment around Creative Assembly was at perhaps an all-time low, with discontent about the quality and pricing of Total War: Warhammer 3 DLC, the debacle surrounding the cancellation of Hyenas, CA's most expensive game ever, and at least for me, the lingering, soul-deep resentment over the abandonment of Total War: Three Kingdoms.
But Pharaoh itself was actually pretty great, to be honest. And with the crowning Dynasties update, it has really become the full-featured and comprehensive Total War: The Bronze Age game I've been daydreaming about since A Total War Saga: Troy.
The scope of this update is hard to undersell. In addition to stapling the entire Aegean from Troy onto Pharaoh's already considerable map of Egypt, the Levant, and Central Anatolia, Dynasties also extends to the East with a brand new Mesopotamia region along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties review—A stunning game that has so much to give
Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties adds a plethora of unused content to Total War: Pharaoh. This content completely changes the game. My review treats Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties as a brand-new game because that’s what it feels like when you play. I didn’t get much time with the base game, but from what I got to play, it never clicked with me the same way Total War: Three Kingdoms, Warhammer II, and Troy did. I am happy that Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties made me tumble in love with this installment in the Total War franchise.
I only played Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties on my Steam Deck. I capped everything at 30FPS and was more than glad with my experience. During each of my playthroughs, I got around two hours of playtime.

The map now includes Greece and Mesopotamia, and seeing it in the game made my jaw drop. It’s the best-looking Total War map I’ve seen yet. There are also four new playable cultures; Babylon, Assyria, Mycenae, and Troy. On highest of that, you’re getting 25 minor factions and 4 recent ancient legacy mechanics.
