F5 launched the BIG-IP Next program to modernize F5’s BIG-IP software and empower customers to adapt to the demands of the evolving application landscape. The program focused on delivering enhanced scalability, simplified operations, and advanced automation capabilities to BIG-IP. Initially, many of the enhancements envisioned for BIG-IP Next were considered unattainable within the monolithic architecture of BIG-IP TMOS. However, recent technological advances—including cutting-edge development tools and innovative third-party software components—have demonstrated that these improvements can now be realized within the existing BIG-IP TMOS codebase.

Extensive customer feedback in recent years also highlighted various challenges associated with the adoption of BIG-IP Next, such as the need for significant solution reintegration and recertification efforts. In response, to minimize disruption for BIG-IP customers and to accelerate delivery of a solution built for the next application era, F5 has made the strategic decision to discontinue development of BIG-IP Next.
