‘He wants my name, I need his title’: Danny Garcia talks upcoming fight with Erislandy Lara
Danny Garcia is set to produce his return to the chime on the Sept. 14 Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga undercard where he’ll take on Erislandy Lara for his WBA title. During yesterday’s kick off urge conference which formally announced the fight, Garcia spoke about his long layoff to return at 160 lbs.
“I wasn’t off two years because I wanted to,” Garcia said. “Boxing took a change and I just sat down and waited for my opportunity. You know, the contest was supposed to happen last year in August but it didn’t happen. This is a fight that I’ve been planning for and a fight that I wanted. Lara has something I want, which is the title, and I’m the entitle — he wants my mention, I want his title and it makes perfect sense. I’m trying to make history.
“Boxing’s all mental. You can do whatever you put your mind to. If you feel like you can’t do it, it’s probably because you can’t do it. But I know mentally I believe I can do anything I put my mind to and I never back down from any challenge. It’s

Danny Garcia’s Final Fight Announced
Danny Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) will box on October 18 in the main event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, against Daniel Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs) in a farewell fight.
Garcia has not boxed since losing to WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara on September 14, 2024. The fight was just Garcia’s third since 2020, as he has lost two of his last three bouts. His last win was against Jose Benavidez Jr. on July 30, 2022, as there were question marks over whether Garcia should retire. The 37-year-old is no longer the same fighter who won titles at 140 and 147. Meanwhile, Gonzalez has two wins on the spin, beating Keane McMahon and Michael Anderson last year, respectively.
“The fans have supported me the whole way since I first fought here and have made Brooklyn feel like my home outside of Philly. There’s nothing like a big fight night at Barclays Center. I had to do this show for the fans and show them how much I’ve appreciated them this entire time. The best way to say goodbye is by fighting here one last time and giving them a tremendous night of boxing full of rising young talent. It’s go

Danny Garcia didn’t realize he was biting off more than he could chew until it was too late.
In his lone appearance of 2024, Garcia (37-4, 21 KOs) brazenly moved up to the middleweight division to challenge Erislandy Lara for his WBA title. Garcia called it daring to be great, but Lara called it foolish.
Although he normally sticks on the outside with his left hand cocked, Lara walked straight to Garcia, forcing him to fold under his relentless pressure. Once it was over, the 36-year-old began flirting with the idea of retirement. There’s still a possibility he could walk away but Angel Garcia, his father and trainer, recently revealed that his son’s obituary shouldn’t be written just yet.
“Danny might fight again,” admitted Garcia to YSM Sports Media.
If he does climb through those ropes again, Garcia would likely want a big-time fight as opposed to some tenuous tuneup. Currently, the ball isn’t in his court. Considering his last performance and the stage of his career, Garcia will have to wait until an opportunity comes his way. Luckily for him, his father knows exactly who should be knocking on his door.
“The perfect fight for him would be Mario Barrios,” conti
