An Olympic medal of any sort is usually a ticket to professional gold. Unfortunately, 2020 U.S. Olympic bronze medalist Oshae Jones is still waiting for that check to come in.


"I really didn't know what to expect," Jones said when asked if her pro career has gone as expected.


"I just thought the pay for women would be better. That's the most shocking thing for me since we do the same thing as the men. The majority of women are making more money being on the USA team than being professional. But it's getting better over time."


Maybe that has something to do with the Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano trilogy and its elevation of women's boxing, but there's also the reality that Jones (8-0, 3 KOs) has the IBF and IBO junior middleweight world titles in her possession heading into Friday night's championship defense against Elia Carranza (11-1, 3 KOs) of Miami, Florida.

Oshae Jones and Elia Carranza clash for IBF and IBO world titles

Unbeaten Oshae Jones (8-0, 3 KOs) defends her IBF and IBO world super-welterweight titles to fellow American Elia Carranza (11-1, 3 KOs) on Friday, July 25, 2025 in Atlanta, live on DAZN.

From Ohio, the defending champion, Oshae Jones, won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

She turned pro in 2022 and won the NABF super-welterweight title in her fifth pro fight. In November 2024, she split decisioned Femke Hermans to be crowned IBF and IBO world super-welterweight champion.

Now aged 27, Oshae makes the first defence of her world championships to Florida’s Carranza.

The 34-year-old challenger has lost just once in her 12-bout pro career, back in her second fight in June 2022.

Carranza has defeated former world champion, Chris Namus, who was an IBF titlist in 2017; as well as world title contenders Yamila Reynoso, Natasha Spence and Edina Kiss.
