Owlcat Games talks to us about about WH40K: Rogue Trader, the next game 'Dark Heresy' — and how the studio feels about working with Xbox Game Pass
Last week, I rolled credits on Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, which at over 200 hours in I can honestly say is not only one of the best CRPGs I've ever played — it's simply one of the best video games I've played in general.
I went in with only the most basic surface-level knowledge of Warhammer 40K as a universe, and have, due to Rogue Trader, found myself now buying books, minifigs, and taking painting courses to fully immerse myself into the decades-long tradition.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is on Xbox and PC, as well as Game Pass, and is arguably one of the best ways one can be introduced to the incredibly deep and dark lore of one of fantasy's most celebrated franchises. I played this game across cloud, PC, and Xbox consoles with Xbox Play Anywhere, and haven't been this deeply hooked on a game since the days of Mass Effect.

Owlcat Games' Next Release Might Be In The Starfinder Universe
Cyprus-based Owlcat Games has something in store for us. The makers of Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous have a new website that promises a “new adventure,” and it will definitely have a space motif.
Besides the animated background with two planets and the occasional comet, there’s not much else going on with Owlcat’s website. There’s a link that’ll let you subscribe to an email list, and that’s it. However, Owlcat’s extensive background with Pathfinder games and its continues use of the Pathfinder license, we have a pretty good idea of what this next game is all about.

For those who haven’t played, Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous are both classic isometric RPGs inspired by the likes of Baldur’s Gate and the original Fallout games. Both are based on previously published Adventure Paths in Pathfinder, and both have pretty solid reviews from CRPG fans.

I still obsess over Disco Elysium. Between having a toxic relationship with your alcoholic necktie or diving into a wheelchair lady while flipping off your landlord, the political CRPG about cops and communism still passes its Physical Instrument check over my heart.
And yet, with the sequel’s prospects fallen into a chaotic mess of manifestos and separate projects, I’ve been scouring for a successor to the hit game’s high-brow reckless abandon. Thankfully, I had good fortune with Owlcat Games upcoming titles, the team behind the acclaimed Pathfinder and Rogue Trader series, showing off some new entries to scratch that communist-devouring itch.
After sitting me down at this past GDC and completing the secret game dev handshake passed down for eons, Andrey Tsvetkov, Owlcat Games’ head of publishing, went over their upcoming RPGs involving yokai vs mechs, plague management, and 42-minute time travel. Though we’ll never get Disco Elysium 2: Cuno’s Revenge, these titles will surely give the political RPG a run for its Real.
